How to calculate how many sales your chatbot brings in
“The bot handled 3,000 messages” sounds impressive, but says nothing about revenue. Here’s what really shows whether your chatbot pays off—and how to track it without manual spreadsheets.

Why message volume is a poor metric
There may be lots of messages because the bot gives poor answers and customers keep asking follow-up questions. Or the bot answers well, but a manager still takes the order over the phone — and the bot’s report misses the sale. That’s why you should track orders and revenue linked to conversations.
Three numbers worth checking every week
- Revenue through the bot — paid orders that included a conversation with the bot.
- Conversation-to-order conversion — the share of conversations that end in a purchase.
- What the bot sold on its own — upsells, recovered carts, payments after reminders, and repeat sales. This is revenue you would have missed without automation.
How to link orders to conversations
It’s easiest when an order is placed right in the chat: the connection is clear. It’s harder when a customer chats with the bot but buys on your website or in your Prom.ua store. In LEO Chat, orders from connected stores (Prom.ua, Horoshop, WooCommerce) are matched to chat customers by phone number or email.
Attribution uses a 7-day last-touch model: an order is credited to the channel or ad campaign (by UTM) the customer came from most recently. This shows not just that “the bot helped,” but which ads bring in customers who later buy through the bot.
Track what the bot does on its own separately
- Upselling — complementary products added to a purchase: the total value of added items.
- Cart reminders — shoppers who returned to an abandoned cart and made a purchase.
- Payment reminders — invoices paid after a reminder.
- Repeat sales — offers sent a few days after delivery.
In the LEO Chat dashboard, you’ll find a separate “What the bot sold on its own” section, showing the total for the selected period and its share of all orders. If an automation is turned off, you’ll see an “Enable” button next to it.
How to calculate ROI
Take the revenue generated through the bot in a month, multiply it by your margin, and compare the result with your plan’s cost. Also factor in the time saved by managers: how many inquiries the bot handled without human help (the “AI resolves on its own” metric in the dashboard).
Important: these are measurements from your store, not a promise. Compare periods before and after launch across similar seasons, and account for advertising.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need Google Analytics for this kind of analytics?
No. Revenue through the bot, channel attribution, and UTM tracking are calculated in LEO Chat itself. You can add website behavior tracking and heatmaps to your analytics.
What if a buyer calls to place an order after chatting with the bot?
If an order appears in your connected store (Prom.ua, Horoshop, or WooCommerce) with the same phone number or email, LEO Chat will link it to the conversation. The bot won’t see orders placed entirely outside these systems.
Are canceled orders counted?
No. The “What the bot sold on its own” section excludes canceled and refunded orders, and revenue through the bot is calculated only for paid orders.
